Our Beautiful New Covenant

The covenant we have in Jesus is sealed and promised. We can have ultimate assurance that He will unconditionally uphold His covenant He made with us. Listen to what the writer of Hebrews said:

The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after he says: This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, the Lord says, I will put my laws on their hearts and write them on their minds, and I will never again remember their sins and their lawless acts. Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. (Hebrews 10:15-18)

That right there is why leaning into learning about the covenants God made with Israel is so important. Every covenant points to this new covenant we have in Christ and they allow us to have an unwavering confidence that God will never let us down. Remember our big idea.

What God promises, He faithfully delivers.

In His Word, He says who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. If you’ve called upon Jesus, then you have all the wonderful and unwavering benefits of the new covenant. Like Israel, who experienced a breath of fresh air… we, too, who have the same God, experienced a breath of fresh air from this covenant. Before God completely changed our lives, we were stuck in the smog and pollution of sin. God, when we called out to Him, delivered us from that. Isn’t that amazing?

But more than that, there’s something profound and applicable to us today as a church that is celebrating our second birthday. Let’s keep reading and pick up in v 19.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus— he has inaugurated for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh)— and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching. (Hebrews 10:19-25)

In other words, because of this new covenant, we can be a church that can worship God with full confidence knowing we can experience and be transformed by His presence. And that, we, too, have been called to continue gathering together under the name of Jesus so that all of us can keep on keeping on until Jesus returns.

And let us never forget that this covenant we all share together is held together unconditionally by our eternally faithful triune God
